Gowling WLG is proud to support Rugby Canada - on and off the pitch

17 August 2016

Congratulations to the Canadian women's rugby sevens team on winning bronze last week in Rio, and for making history by receiving the country's first-ever Olympic rugby medal in this inaugural event.

The team is no stranger to success, having won gold at last year's Pan Am Games in Toronto - along with the men's rugby sevens team - as well as the silver medal at the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2014. This achievement has provided Rugby Canada with an opportunity to raise awareness for the sport, which is becoming increasingly popular recreationally and in schools across the country.

Gowling WLG has been legal counsel to Rugby Canada, as well as a proud supporter of its rugby initiatives, for over 20 years. Our team of professionals, led by Sam Johnston, has advised the organization on a range of legal matters in its day-to-day operations.

For over 40 years, Rugby Canada has sought to provide Canadians with the opportunity to play competitive rugby around the world. As Canada's governing rugby body, it aims to support the growth of men and women's rugby - from prospering young players to teams at the national level.
