Scott Jolliffe

Scott Jolliffe is an engineer and a lawyer. As a partner at Gowling WLG, he serves as a trusted adviser to senior business leaders on legal and business matters related to the global protection and enforcement of intellectual property (IP). Having earned his reputation as a leading litigator in Canada, and then as CEO of Gowlings as it grew to become a Global 100 law firm, Scott now focuses on providing strategic and practical guidance on legal and business matters facing our clients.

Drawing on more than 40 years of legal experience, Scott serves as a mediator in IP and technology disputes. He is a published author and frequently speaks on matters related to IP, legal ethics, conflicts of interest, diversity & inclusion, the business of law, and law firm leadership. He is the recipient of several awards, including the prestigious Louis St-Laurent Award for Excellence, granted by the Canadian Bar Association in recognition of his lifetime of outstanding service and professional achievement to the benefit of the legal profession, and the Lexpert Zenith Award for his demonstrated excellence, action, and thought leadership in ways that have advanced diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and society.

For more than 20 years, Scott served as managing partner, then CEO and chair, of Gowlings, which is now known worldwide as Gowling WLG. During his leadership tenure, he played a key role in positioning Gowling WLG to become one of the world's most respected law firms.

In addition to his work at Gowling WLG, Scott serves as the past chair and director of the Canadian Arab Business Council (CABC), Canada's leading business association focused on bringing the Canadian and Arab business communities together to facilitate and expand trade and investment between Canada and the Arab world. He also serves as a director on the board of the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business (CACB), an independent business chamber with strong working links to the Canadian and African businesses and governments dedicated to accelerating trade, business and investment between Canada and Africa through world-class networking and information sharing opportunities.
