Gowling WLG reaffirms its patent expertise with MIP award win

13 March 2017

Gowling WLG's Intellectual Property team has been awarded 'UK Patent Contentious Firm of the Year' at this year's Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) Global Awards.

For the last 12 years, the MIP Global Awards have recognised the leading patent, trademark, and copyright firms across the world. The awards are presented to firms, individuals and companies behind the most innovative and challenging IP work of the past year, as well as those at the forefront of the international IP market.

Gordon Harris, co-head of Gowling WLG's Intellectual Property team, said: "I am delighted and very proud of my team for winning this award. We have had a great few years of patent litigation success and this award is the well-deserved culmination of all that effort.

"We have conducted top level patent litigation across all the key sectors - Engineering, Technology and Life Sciences - showing a consistent quality and achievement. The team is strong at all levels and I was particularly pleased to have many of our great young lawyers with me to receive the award."

Gordon Harris was joined by associate Christopher Freeth in accepting the award at the Savoy hotel in London.

This accolade is the latest in a long run of recognition for the firm's Intellectual Property team. Many of the team were recently named IP Stars by Managing Intellectual Property. The firm was also recognised among the world's top trademark firms when World Trademark Review listed it in the 2017 edition of its annual guide, WTR 1000.

The team was awarded the same UK Patent Contentious Firm of the Year award by MIP only three years ago, following the Virgin v Zodiac litigation.

For over 125 years, Gowling WLG has been helping the world's top organisations maximise their intellectual property assets and protect what makes them unique. With a leading global network of award-winning IP professionals, the firm's Intellectual Property group offers unmatched expertise in patents, trademarks, brands, designs, copyright, advertising, IP litigation and more.
