For the third year in a row, Gowlings has been recognized for its unparalleled expertise in the global life sciences industry, taking home six awards at the 2015 LMG Life Sciences Awards ceremony last night in New York.

Gowlings won more awards than any other law firm, and received top honours for:

  • Canadian Life Cycle Firm of the Year
  • Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Firm of the Year
  • Russia Firm of the Year
  • Canadian IP Contentious Impact Case of the Year
  • Canadian IP Non-Contentious Impact Case of the Year
  • Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Attorney of the Year

As 'Canadian Life Cycle Firm of the Year', 'Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Firm of the Year' and 'Russia Firm of the Year', Gowlings is renowned for its life sciences expertise, providing cross-disciplinary insight and practical legal advice that spans all aspects of intellectual property law, business law and litigation matters.

Through its offices across Canada and in Moscow, the firm delivers top-tier services to a broad spectrum of clients — from investors and public issuers to innovative startups and multinational brands — in a range of key life sciences industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, healthcare services, vaccines, food, agriculture and cosmetics.

Gowlings also took home the award for 'IP Contentious Impact Case of the Year' for its representation of Idenix Pharmaceuticals in Gilead Sciences et al v. Idenix Pharmaceuticals et al. In addition, the firm earned the 'Canadian IP Non-Contentious Impact Case of the Year' award for its management of Purdue Pharma’s Canadian patent estate.

Firm partner Omar Nassif was named 'Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Attorney of the Year'. Nassif has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as in managing and co-ordinating international patent portfolios, including Purdue Pharma’s Canadian patent estate. His expertise spans a number of areas, such as biomedical devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics and chemistry.

Introduced in 2013, the LMG Life Sciences Awards celebrate the achievements of the leading life sciences law firms and practitioners in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The firm was represented at this year’s awards ceremony by Nassif and Christopher Van Barr, who received the award for 'Canadian Patent Litigation Attorney of the Year' at last year’s event.
