Cyrus Reporter is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. He is one of Canada's leading public policy and communications practitioners, with over 25 years of executive-level experience in both public and private sectors.
Cyrus assists clients with strategic communications, risk mitigation, government relations planning and direct advocacy. He is a trusted advisor and strategic counsel to many of Canada's prominent companies and not-for-profit organizations, helping them successfully protect their reputations and meet their policy, legislative and regulatory objectives with governments. He also regularly advises clients on issues related to compliance with lobbying laws, conflict of interest, gifting and hospitality rules and elections law.
From 1997-2003, Cyrus served as Chief of Staff in three federal departments (Justice & Attorney General, Health, Industry). He served as Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and subsequently as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister. He served on the “transition teams” of Prime Minister Martin (2003) and Prime Minister Trudeau (2015). He has held key leadership positions in several federal election campaigns including lead roles in election Leaders Debate preparation and rapid response and “war room” functions.
More recently, Cyrus served as Vice President, Public & Government Affairs at Canadian National Railway, where he had direct oversight of government and stakeholder relations for North America as well as corporate communications and media relations.
Cyrus currently serves as a board member of Hydro Ottawa. In recent years, he has also served as a director of the Canada-India Business Council, Canada UAE Business Council, Ottawa Community Immigration Services, City of Ottawa Transit Commission, and on the Carleton University Board of Governors.
