François Viau is a partner in Gowling WLG's Montréal office, practising in bankruptcy and insolvency, real estate law, banking and commercial litigation.
François is the leader of the Montréal Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Insolvency Practice Group. He is also a member of the Liaison Committee for the Commercial Division of the Québec Superior Court.
François regularly represents financial institutions and private lenders with respect to restructuring matters, enforcement of security, as well as trustees in bankruptcy, creditors and debtors on various insolvency-related issues. François is also well known as a trusted advisor to major retail landlords, owners and real estate developers in insolvency related matters. In addition, François is a frequent speaker and author in banking, insolvency and real estate law. In addition to his appearance among Canada's leading lawyers (Insolvency Litigation) in The Canadian Lexpert® Directory, François has also been recognized in Best Lawyers™ in Canada and Benchmark Canada. Called to the Bar in 1993 (Québec). Francois is also an accredited arbitrator and mediator.
