Joel has in-depth experience in the areas of real estate, banking, municipal and commercial law. He is involved in structuring real estate acquisitions and dispositions, commercial, retail and industrial leasing matters and real estate based financings. Joel has organized and led multi-office teams in complex commercial real estate transactions and has helped deliver numerous high profile real estate projects, advising throughout their lifecycle.
Joel works closely with the Gowling WLG Canada, UK, European and Dubai real estate practice members to bring forward Gowling WLG's complete range of real estate services on a domestic and international level. Joel also has extensive experience in multi-unit mixed use, office tower, hotel and airport projects and implemented structures to facilitate First Nation land development and associated financings.
Joel's practice is built on principles of superior client service, as well as practical and effective advice.
A lawyer who uses his abilities to help others, Joel is a founding member and director of Honour House Society, which provides temporary accommodation to members of Canada's Armed Forces and First Responders and their families and has edited the British Columbia Law Society's Professional Legal Training Course Real Estate Practice materials. He plays a major role in helping to create a culture of efficiency and excellence, and is an active member of the firm's commitment to community initiatives.
