Kim Walker is a partner in the Business Law Group in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. Kim’s practice focuses on commercial lending, finance and regulatory law with an emphasis on Crown corporations.
With a background in financing and restructuring transactions, Kim provides strategic advice to clients on commercial financing, including development and project financing, secured lending and asset management.
Kim also has particular experience in banking, insurance, financial assistance, insolvency and receivership as a result of her work in the financial services sector, including with the regulation of banks and credit unions.
With a strong understanding of federal government, agencies and Crown corporations, Kim guides clients on regulatory compliance, legislative interpretation and corporate governance.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Kim was the Director, Legal Services at Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), where she led the legal services team. Early in her career, Kim acted for real estate developers and was legal counsel in the mortgage insurance industry, where she acted on default management transactions, development financing and urban renewal agreements. Kim’s clients also rely on her years of in-house experience for guidance on general corporate matters.
Kim holds a Master’s of Law related to commercial, real estate development and environmental law.
