Sam Tecle

Sam is a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office. He practices in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law, and professional liability.

Working across multiple sectors, Sam helps his clients navigate a range of contentious matters – from intricate contract and negligence claims to white-collar fraud investigations to high-stakes banking litigation files. Over the course of his career, he has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as before administrative tribunals in British Columbia and Alberta.

Sam's clients – which include banks, tech companies, and professional service firms – admire his practical, informed, and client-centred approach to resolving their disputes and regard him as a trusted advocate.

Sam complements his practice by working as an adjunct professor at Capilano University's School of Legal Studies where he teaches legal advocacy. He also currently serves on Capilano University's Board of Governors as well as on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Sam served as a judicial law clerk for the Honourable Justice Robert L. Barnes of the Federal Court of Canada. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria, after which he lived and worked in South Korea for several years. Sam subsequently returned to Canada and earned a Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University, Faculty of Law, during which time he went on exchange at the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law.
