Serge Amar is a partner at Gowling WLG's Montréal office. His practice mainly focuses on civil and commercial litigation as well as tax litigation. For almost 30 years, Serge has been advising clients in various areas, including banking, insurance, real estate, construction and infrastructure, class actions, debt collection and environmental matters.
He has counseled major Canadian corporations on national matters involving fraud, internal theft, investigations and private security. He advises companies undergoing inspections and investigations by governmental agencies.
His practice also covers the civil and criminal liability of businesses and their directors.
Serge argued one of the first cases in Québec involving an Anton Piller order. The matter, which concerned unfair competition and data theft, resulted in a landmark Court of Appeal judgment.
Serge has spoken before the Fiscal and Financial Planning Association (APFF) and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. He is also frequently called upon to provide training at seminars on various topics related to private security and the civil liability of a corporation's internal security and expertise services.
Serge joined Gowling WLG in 2017.
