Gowling WLG is pleased to announce that Claire Duckworth, a chartered accountant with more than two decades of financial leadership experience, has joined the firm as CFO and a member of the firm's Canadian leadership team.

Duckworth brings an extensive background in strategic planning, business analysis, financial reporting and process transformation to her new position. She most recently served as CFO and executive director at another large law firm, where she oversaw matters pertaining to financial strategy and operational services.

"As we emerge from the pandemic, we know that our success depends on the talent, creativity and resilience of our people," said Steve McKersie, CEO of Gowling WLG Canada. "It's with this understanding that we're delighted to welcome Claire to Gowling WLG. A proven financial leader with a deep commitment to service excellence, she will be a critical asset to our team."

Duckworth's arrival coincides with the start of an exciting new chapter for Gowling WLG – one that will see it embracing better, more agile ways of working to bring its teams closer together.

"Our enhanced agility will help ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow, contribute and flourish," said McKersie. "We're truly excited about what the future holds, and I'm looking forward to working alongside Claire as we explore the many possibilities before us."

In addition to her experience in law firm management, Duckworth has held senior roles with a number of traditional and digital media companies, including The Globe and Mail and Kaboose Inc. She began her career in audit and due diligence at EY Canada.

Duckworth succeeds Karen Byrne, who recently retired from the firm after a distinguished career that included more than 20 years as CFO. Gowling WLG extends its very best wishes to Byrne in her retirement.
