Mike Myschyshyn

Mike Myschyshyn is an associate at Gowling WLG’s Calgary office.

In court, Mike helps his clients enforce patents and defend against patent infringement allegations. Mike also practices trademark and copyright litigation and has experience, and a strong interest, in software-related copyright litigation.

Outside of court, Mike drafts patent applications, negotiates with patent offices to help his clients obtain issued patents, develops defensive strategies against potentially concerning patents, and provides patent monetization advice. Mike also advises his clients how to protect and enforce copyright and develops worldwide anti-counterfeiting strategies.

Throughout his legal practice, Mike’s been involved with inventions relating to a wide range of subject matter, including software, energy, agriculture, chemistry, and various mechanical devices.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mike studied biochemistry and earned a master’s degree in the subject. During his graduate studies, Mike developed software for analyzing DNA sequencing data. Mike continues to have a strong interest in software and today he uses (and sometimes develops) software that enables him to be a more efficient and effective lawyer.
