Gowling WLG is delighted to congratulate Veronica Tang, WestJet's interim vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, who was shortlisted as a "Tomorrow's Leader" at the Western Canada General Counsel Awards in Vancouver (WCGCA).

Now in its sixth year, the WCGCA recognizes excellence among in-house counsel in Western Canada. The Tomorrow's Leader Award, in particular, highlights individuals who endeavour to advance the role and stature of general counsel within their own organizations, as well as others.

In her current position, Tang leads WestJet's legal department and oversees all legal matters for the airline — including those related to corporate governance, regulatory compliance, labour and high-stakes commercial and financing transactions. She is routinely counted upon to provide sound, strategic legal advice to the airline's board and executive team.

Since joining WestJet in 2012, Tang has proven herself an exception general counsel, playing instrumental roles in several landmark transactions and initiatives. Most recently, she served as a deal team lead on the $5B Onex transaction, the largest private equity deal in aviation history. Over the course of her career, Tang also spearheaded company-wide competition, anti-corruption and restricted trading compliance programs, and worked as a key adviser on the launches of Swoop and WestJet Encore.

Gowling WLG is honoured to count WestJet among its clients, and congratulates Veronica on this achievement.
