Sian Laing

Sian Laing is an associate in Gowling WLG's Calgary office and a member of the advocacy department. She practises primarily in the areas of health law and medical defence, including acting as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association and its member physicians. 

Before moving to Alberta, Sian maintained a diverse litigation practice at a prominent regional law firm in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her practice focused on matters involving regulated professions, commercial disputes, administrative law proceedings and medical and personal injury defence. 

She has effectively represented clients before all levels of court in Nova Scotia, as well as the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. Sian was actively involved in a matter granted leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. She has also appeared before various adjudicative bodies and tribunals, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. 

Beyond her legal work, Sian is an active member of The Advocates' Society and has sat on or assisted several not-for-profit organizations and boards of directors.
