For the fourth consecutive year, Managing IP (MIP) has named Gowling WLG partners Alexandra Brodie and Shelagh Carnegie among the world’s leading women IP lawyers, recognition that reflects the depth, consistency and market impact of their work across complex IP disputes, strategy and brand protection.

Alex is a London-based partner and one of Britain's leading IP litigators. She co-founded and chaired the firm’s tech sector group, helping global clients navigate complex IP issues with sector-focused advice and strategy. Alex won Impact Case of the Year at the MIP EMEA Awards 2025 for her expert handling of the InterDigital v. Lenova case. She won it again the following year for Tesla v. InterDigital & Avanci. Both matters reflect a string of precedent-setting SEP disputes handled by Alex and her team.

Shelagh is a Toronto-based partner and former co-head of the firm’s global IP Group. Her practice spans the full trademark prosecution lifecycle, helping local and international clients, including Fortune 500 companies, clear, protect, commercialise and enforce their trademark rights in Canada and abroad. Her standing as a leading practitioner is reflected in recognition from the 2026 editions of WTR 1000, WTR Global Leaders, Chambers Canada and Chambers Global.

Both have consistently been recognised by MIP as international IP Stars in their respective jurisdictions.

MIP has been publishing its prestigious Top 250 Women in IP list annually for nearly 15 years, based on independent research conducted across 50 jurisdictions. The list celebrates exceptional senior female IP practitioners working in private practice over the past year.
