In his conversation with CTV News, Jacques discussed Canada’s decision to walk away from last-minute U.S. proposals, including a reported proposal that would have restricted Canada’s ability to engage in trade with other countries. He emphasized the importance of preserving Canada’s ability to make independent trade decisions, while noting the continued integration of the Canadian and U.S. economies.

“We’ve actually avoided a chokehold. It would be hard to imagine that we would be restricted from making decisions as to who and how we address trade and negotiate with other countries.”
