Daniel Derkach

Daniel Derkach is an associate in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. He completed his JD at Western University, where he was at the top of his class in the Intellectual Property, Information and Technology law area of concentration.
During law school, Daniel co-founded and served two years as student director for the Western Intellectual Property & Innovation Legal Clinic (WIPILC). Through this clinic, he assisted entrepreneurs, startup businesses, inventors and artists with protecting and commercializing their intellectual property.
Daniel also served on the executive committee of the Western Intellectual Property Association and won the Gordon F. Henderson Award for Best Respondent Factum at the 2022 Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot and first place at the 2021 Legate Medical Malpractice Moot.
Prior to attending law school, Daniel obtained a BSc with Honours in neuroscience and an MSc in neural stem cell research at the University of Toronto. His research focused on brain repair following treatment for pediatric brain tumours and ischemic stroke and culminated in multiple peer-reviewed publications, including in Nature Medicine.
