As a partner and registered patent agent in Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office, Jeffrey Wong works with a range of companies — from startups to multinational corporations — to help them maximize and protect their intellectual property assets. He is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property, Patents and Tech groups.
For over 15 years, Jeffrey has delivered strategic advice to tech clients in a variety of areas, including software, business methods, and electrical and mechanical technologies.
A registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States, Jeffrey helps clients effectively manage their patent portfolios, including preparing, filing and prosecuting applications, performing searches, and providing opinions on the patentability of ideas and freedom-to-operate matters. He also advises clients on industrial designs.
Jeffrey is highly active in both the Waterloo Region and Canadian IP and tech communities. An associate with the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), he serves as vice-president of the Kitchener-Waterloo IPIC Informals Group. Jeffrey is also a member of the Communitech Waterloo Region Technology Association, Canada's Technology Triangle, Professional Engineers Ontario, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering (computing option) from Queen's University.
Jeffrey's community work includes serving as an elder at The Meeting House and as a counsellor at Sunnydale Connect. He also coaches and plays in a local soccer league.
