Bio
Kent Ledwell is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, practising in the area of patents and industrial designs. He specializes in originating patent drafting and strategic advice for Canadian high technology, electronics and telecommunications companies. His main clients are leaders in wireless communications, embedded software and encryption technologies.
Kent has an honours degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, and is a registered Canadian Patent Agent. Kent is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), sitting on the Patent Joint Liaison Committee with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He has also been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for a number of years and is a member of Gowling WLG's Diversity Committee.
Prior to joining the firm, Kent spent seven years in electrical project management and design, specializing in process instrumentation, electrical systems integration and control. Three of those years were spent with his own engineering consulting firm. His projects include numerous water and wastewater treatment plants in Eastern Ontario.
