Shuang Ren is an associate in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, with a focus on intellectual property law. Her practice includes patent prosecution in areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced materials, software, mechanical and electrical engineering. She is skilled in conducting freedom-to-operate analyses and has experience in intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, and copyright disputes. Shuang is a qualified patent agent in China.
Shuang has appeared before various levels of court in Ontario and administrative tribunals, navigating complex legal issues and leveraging mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve intricate matters.
Shuang completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. During law school, she interned at a quantum computing company, contributing to the development of its patent portfolio. She also volunteered with the IP Osgoode Innovation Clinic, providing legal information services to startups, scale-ups, inventors and entrepreneurs involved in innovation and commercialization processes. Additionally, Shuang holds a Master of Science in materials science and a Bachelor of Engineering in materials processing and control engineering. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, she obtained her legal professional qualification in China and worked as a senior lecturer at a university in Shanghai.
