Susan Tandan is a partner, the head of Hamilton's Intellectual Property (IP) Department, and an experienced patent agent registered to practise in both Canada and the United States. In her career of almost 30 years, Susan has held positions in both private practice and in-house with a leading Canadian research-based biotechnology company.
Her practice focuses on providing services and advice relating to patent protection, both locally and globally, particularly with respect to life science technologies, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, gene and protein-related technologies, diagnostics, agricultural, cannabis, clean-tech and medical devices.
Susan works with a broad range of clients including research-based organizations such as top innovator universities in Ontario, hospitals and government ministries. She also represents corporate clients at various stages from startup to established business, who especially value her previous industry experience and her understanding of the IP-related issues faced by such organizations. She has consistently been recognized for her work by IAM Patent 1000: The World's Leading Patent Professionals, who, in their 2019 issue, stated on behalf of a client: "Among the best Canadian patent attorneys, Susan Tandan is always reliable and helpful, and provides quality service at a fair price. Susan is actively involved with the local startup community, helping organizations understand and leverage the value of their IP, and she regularly lectures at a number of universities on topics related to strategies for IP protection. She is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, Life Sciences Ontario and the Associate of University Technology Managers.
