Upama Poudyal
- Year of Call, Ontario (2024)
Upama Poudyal is an associate in Gowling WLG’s Waterloo Region office. Upama practises primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity, general corporate matters and commercial real estate.
Upama interned and worked as a legal assistant at several boutique size firms and in-house legal teams. She has also explored her passion for legal academia as a scholarly writer, researcher and teaching assistant.
As part of the first cohort at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Upama played a foundational role in shaping a number of clubs and initiatives at the law school. At the 2nd annual Lincoln Alexander MOOT competition, she argued the SCC case of Toronto (City) v. Ontario (Attorney General), and received the highest honour of champion and top oralist.
Prior to law school, Upama majored in legal studies at the University of Waterloo where she received her bachelor of arts degree.
Inspired by the ever-growing innovation hub in the Waterloo Region and the entrepreneurial environments at both the University of Waterloo and the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Upama created a successful partnership program between her law school and a legal startup incubator in Toronto to give students real life experience working with emerging tech companies, and to give companies an extra hand in managing their operations.
Outside of the office, Upama enjoys travelling with friends, attending concerts, working out, and spending time with her beloved golden retriever, Momo.
