
Bio
Vashini Jaunky is a bilingual articling student in the Advocacy Group in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. She has a strong interest in personal injury, professional liability, and defamation.
Vashini holds both civil law and common law degrees from the University of Ottawa’s Programme de droit canadien. During her legal studies, she served as a legal intern at the Equality Law Clinic, worked as a teaching assistant in Alternative Dispute Resolution and Legal Foundations, and contributed as a research assistant focusing on maritime law, environmental law, and cyberdefamation. In her first year, she competed in a moot court competition and was recognized as the Top Oralist. Vashini was also actively involved with the Canadian Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges, where she collaborated with the National Advisory Group under the supervision of Madam Justice Renée Pomerance.
Born and raised in Mauritius, Vashini moved to Canada to pursue her studies in French Literature, earning a degree in Lettres françaises from the University of Ottawa. Passionate about promoting the French language and Francophone cultures, she previously worked at French for the Future, an organization that empowers youth through leadership-building and cultural engagement. She also gained editorial experience at the University of Ottawa Press, contributing to the editing, design, and production of academic publications in both French and English.
Fluent in both official languages, Vashini is committed to fostering access to justice in Canada’s bilingual legal landscape. In her spare time, she enjoys tutoring children in math, French, and science.
