Gowling WLG is proud to support International Women’s Day (IWD) and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
To recognize the importance of IWD and this year’s theme of #BeBoldForChange, Gowling WLG’s Diversity & Inclusion Council organized a Canada-wide lunch and learn session for firm staff and professionals on the topic of gender equality.
The discussion, moderated by Gowling WLG Canada CEO Peter Lukasiewicz, explored how gender diversity impacts business and law, and provided practical tips on how to be an ally for greater equality — particularly in advancing women to leadership positions.
“Achieving greater gender diversity at the leadership level is essential — for both our firm and the companies we work with,” said Tina Woodside, firm managing partner, internal at Gowling WLG Canada. “Here at Gowling WLG, we’re committed to promoting the values and principles of International Women’s Day not only today, but each and every day.”
The firm also coordinated a social media campaign across its Canadian and Moscow offices, where team members had their photos taken to express their #BeBoldForChange sentiments. A Facebook photo album can be found here.
In addition, a donation was made on behalf of the firm to the Campaign for Female Education (Camfed), an international, non-profit organization tackles poverty and inequality by supporting girls’ education in poor rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Diversity and inclusion are an integral part of Gowling WLG’s culture. Guided by a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, the firm is a proud member of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network, and was the first Canadian law firm to receive the Starbucks International Excellence in Diversity Award.
