Matthew E. Mitchell

Matt Mitchell is a partner and leader of the Banking & Finance Group in the Vancouver office.

Matt's practice focuses on banking, project finance and syndicated commercial real estate finance transactions. He acts on behalf of Canadian and international financial institutions and debtors and has successfully closed a variety of significant financing transactions, including the acquisition, development, construction and refinancing of commercial real estate, energy and infrastructure projects, office buildings, and hotels.

Matt is recognized as a leading Canadian lawyer in Chambers and Partners (Banking and Finance Nationwide – Canada) and The Best Lawyers in Canada (Banking and Finance Law).

  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a light rail transit line with a contract value of approximately $1.9 billion.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a health care facility with a contract value of approximately $512-million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with a the design, build, finance and maintenance of a rapid transit project with a contract value of approximately $859.2 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of 558 bridges located in the State of Pennsylvania, financed through the sale of in excess of US$720 million in Tax-Exempt Private Activity Revenue Bonds.
  • As counsel to a service provider in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of the Emily Carr University of Art + Design campus redevelopment project, with a capital cost budgeted at up to $122.65 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of correctional facilities with a contract value of approximately $192.9 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a rapid transit highway project with a contract value of approximately US$175 million.
