Monique M. Couture

Monique Couture is one of Canada's leading trademark lawyers. A Gowling WLG partner in Ottawa, she manages a vibrant intellectual property counselling and litigation practice, with an emphasis on trademark enforcement, anti-counterfeiting and prosecution.

Monique protects her clients' brands across a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, music, entertainment, alcoholic beverages, pharmaceutical, hospitality, fashion and retail services.

Monique is highly regarded for the depth of her knowledge, and the versatility of her practice. Monique is involved in all aspects of brand protection for private companies and major multinational brand owners, and acts on both contentious and non-contentious matters. She manages the Canadian trademark portfolios of many of the world's most recognized brands.

Monique is regularly featured in the industry's leading publications, including Who's Who Legal: Trademarks, Guide to the World's Leading Trademark Practitioners, Expert Guides: Women in Business Law, Who's Who Legal: Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada and The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers as one of Canada's leading practitioners in this field of law.

In protecting her clients' brands, Monique appears before the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, as well as before the Trademarks Opposition Board and the Registrar of Trademarks.

Monique spent four years in Moscow, Russia, where she established the firm's anti-counterfeiting and litigation practice, and helped to deliver an acclaimed World Bank project in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Monique is fluent in French, English and Russian.
