Ronald L. Doering

Dr. Ronald Doering is counsel in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office.

With over 35 years of experience in law and public policy/administration, Ron has broad experience in administrative law and practice, Aboriginal law and policy, environmental law and policy, and all aspects of food and agricultural law, including labelling, recalls, biotechnology regulation, plant protection and animal health. He provides regulatory law and government relations services to a broad range of business clients, governments and organizations.

Ron has taught administrative and constitutional law at Carleton University, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph, where he teaches food law and policy.

Before joining the firm, he was the president of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canada's largest science-based regulator, reporting directly to the Minister of Agriculture. Prior to this position, he was a senior official with Agriculture Canada, Environment Canada, Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and the Privy Council Office. He was also counsel and executive director of the Royal Commission on the Future of the Toronto Waterfront (Canada and Ontario).
