Meet our general counsel team

FIND OUT WHAT WE DO AND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK WITH US

What the team does

Within Gowling WLG, the compliance and in-house legal services function is known as the General Counsel team. It is comprised of five sub-teams: Compliance, Professional Indemnity, Client and Matter Acceptance, Corporate Governance and Enterprise Risk Management.

We work in a business critical function which supports and assists the firm to ensure that it is compliant with relevant regulations and legislation, and seeks to monitor and minimise the risks from a financial and reputational point of view.

We provide advice on everything from carrying out money laundering and conflict checks before a new client is opened, to the regulatory requirements in the UK and overseas, to making sure that the firm is monitoring risks in all areas and is complying with its insurance obligations to protect clients.

What it's like to work with us

We provide a varied and challenging workload, which means there is scope to gain exposure to many of the different areas we cover.

Everyone in the team has different skillsets and backgrounds, so there is always someone to talk to and support you when you have a question. We are always looking for new and improved ways to tackle the risk issues facing international law firms and it is therefore a dynamic environment to work in.

A rewarding career

We ask our team members to be dynamic, ambitious and agile in their thinking and behaviour – which isn't always easy. To recognise this, we give them the best rewards.
