Seminar

The Utility 2050 project assesses the possible UK electricity system between 2035 and 2050, reviewing the changing energy sector and the significant economic opportunities and risk this is creating for investors and innovators alike.

It explores the impacts of decarbonisation, identifying likely system challenges, as well as the implications for innovation and deployment, and how futures can be used to inform policy design whilst accommodating deep uncertainty.

As this latest phase of the Utility 2050 project nears completion, Catapult's Utility 2050 team, in partnership with Gowling WLG, invites you to our exclusive roundtable event.

This interactive discussion will explore the potential alternative paths for energy sector investment and the risks and opportunities that are likely to result from this, with sessions covering:

  • Alternative revenue streams
  • Evolving regulatory models and the changes required
  • The impact of technology
  • How the different outcomes may be perceived by consumers of all types
  • Risk levels resulting from possible future business models operating in the future

Want to know more?

Drawing on a wealth of UK economic and energy data, Energy Systems Catapult's Utility 2050 team has modelled new commercial electricity market opportunities for multiple UK futures, with detailed assessment of their investment characteristics, risk levels and consumer impact.

The project has a longer time horizon than most recent research and therefore gives an important outlook for investors seeking to optimise long-term investment strategies. It also considers the different perspectives of incumbents, new entrant players and disruptive technology providers, and the investment opportunities - and risks - which they may offer.
