An unexpected consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a reduction in pollution and companies focusing away from pure profit to social responsibility. “Greener” investment funds, with their focus on sustainability, have generally outperformed their peers since the start of this year.

At the same time, new legislation affecting UK pension schemes and general regulatory and societal pressure, mean that pension scheme trustees have to ensure that Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations are an integral part of investment decision-making. Some schemes are quite some way along in their ESG integration. Other schemes' progress on ESG is in its infancy.

LCP and Gowling WLG are running a two-part webinar series to help trustees and corporate sponsors understand why ESG matters, how it adds value, and some practical actions to get on the front-foot when dealing with the issues. Expert panels of actuaries, lawyers and independent trustees will cover the major considerations in this important area. This is an invitation to the first webinar on Thursday 16th July. The follow-up session will be in September (details to be confirmed nearer the time).
