Seminar

We are pleased to invite you to our ThinkHouse event, 'Advertising law: a year in review'.

The event will be taking place in London on Tuesday 30 January from 16:00-19:00, and will include short sessions on hot topics from 2023 and finish with networking drinks and nibbles.

Join Dan, Kate and Zoe as they review key developments in advertising law in 2023 and discuss what's to come in 2024. They will cover topics such as:

Falling foul of the 'golden rules'

The team will highlight some of the key principles that underpin the advertising code rules (such as social responsibility, misleadingness and accuracy/truthfulness), discuss some recent examples of problematic claims and provide tips on how you can navigate this regulatory landscape.

Greenwashing

Increasingly, consumers are placing pressure on businesses to provide more sustainable products and services in a more sustainable way. As a result, we are seeing more and more "green" claims being made. This year, the UK regulators have taken a tougher stance against greenwashing. Find out what the new guidance says and how the Competition and Markets Authority (the CMA) and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) are approaching these types of claims.

Developments in the regulation of digital advertising

The team will discuss some of the latest developments in the regulation of digital advertising – including an update on '#Ad' and the direction the ASA appears to be travelling based on recent guidance and rulings; the use of generative AI in advertising and some insights on online choice and pressure selling techniques, in light of the CMA's action against Emma Mattresses.

Looking forward to 2024 and beyond…

The team will close on a brief "future gazing" segment and flag what they expect to be key trends and pitfalls in 2024 – this will include a short discussion on the bolstering of CMA powers under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill and what it could mean for you.
