Baltic States

Details

In the thriving markets of the Baltic States, you need advice from lawyers who understand the territory. Gowling WLG has been active in this important region for a number of years.

The Baltic States - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - are small countries with a great deal to offer overseas businesses. According to The World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index, all three are among the top five countries in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. The Baltic States' favourable business climate has made them an attractive investment and business location for numerous overseas companies, with some of the most liberal trade regimes in the world.

The role of Gowling WLG's Baltic team is two-fold. Outbound, our role is to assist clients from outside the Baltic area in selecting the most suitable advisers in the region to help them with their business in the Baltics. Our comprehensive knowledge of the region's law firms and legal market will ensure you get the advice you need.

Our inbound role is to apply our extensive experience in assisting clients headquartered in the Baltic States with establishing their business operations outside the region - whether through acquisition or by establishing a greenfield operation - and looking after their ongoing legal needs.

We can also assist you in protecting and enforcing your IP rights in the Baltic countries, including the filing of patents and trademarks, co-ordinating oppositions and litigation, and conducting anti-counterfeiting work.

Members of our Baltic team regularly visit clients and other contacts in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. When we make these visits, we take a hands-on approach, and often tour our clients' facilities and meet with management to improve our understanding of the challenges they face. We see these visits as essential to both learning what our clients' priorities are, and to tailoring our legal advice to help them meet those objectives.

Our team includes a fluent speaker of Estonian. To learn more about how we can help you succeed, please contact Julian Henwood.
