Shifting Gear... Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill

20 October 2017

Author(s):

The Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill was introduced to the House of Commons and given its First Reading just this Wednesday, 18th October 2017.

Despite other significant Government priorities, the continued progression of this legislation through Parliament is very welcome and a great step along the way to production and operation of automated and electric vehicles.

However, with this stage not involving any debate, it is important to highlight that Monday 23 October will see the second reading of the bill, where MPs will have the opportunity to debate its contents. Will any MPs comment on the role that large fuel companies may be required to play in introducing the very business (electric charging points) that threatens their existing petrol-based model?
