CEWS to be extended to December, 2020
2
The Federal Government has announced the expansion of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy ("CEWS") until December of 2020. The CEWS offers a subsidy of 75% of wages, up to $847 a week. Details of the wage subsidy can be found here.
This represents a second extension of the CEWS. The previous extension had added an additional three claim periods. The qualification criteria for the fourth claim period (June 7 to July 4) remained unchanged; however it is anticipated that additional criteria will soon be announced for the fifth (July 5 to August 1) and sixth (August 2 to August 29) claim periods. Legislation will be required to extend the CEWS beyond the sixth period. We will report further on these developments as they are announced.
For any questions pertaining to the CEWS and this announced extension, or any other matters related to tax laws in Canada or elsewhere around the world, the Gowling WLG Tax Group would be delighted to assist.
