A Gowling WLG Corporate, Commercial and IP team advised client Ottobock on its acquisition of the BeBionic multi-articulated prosthetic hand from Hugh Steeper Limited in March 2017. The uniqueness of this prosthetic hand lies in the diversity of gripping patterns that allows for a greater and more natural range of movement, for instance the separate control of the index finger.

Corporate partner David Vaughan led on the deal along with Laura Kayani, IP lawyers Luke Kempton and Mathilda Davidson.

Distribution of the prosthetic hand has been dealt with by Ottobock since May 2017. This was a cross-sector instruction to ensure the client received the expertise across a range of disciplines that it needed. Ottobock is a company committed to delivering the highest quality in exo-prosthetics as the needs and requirements of prosthetics change in response to the increasingly digital working world.
