Last week, the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA) honoured David Aylen, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Moscow office, with the Canada-Russia Award for Outstanding Commitment to Commercial Relations in recognition of his longstanding dedication to advancing trade relations between Canada and Russia.

An internationally regarded intellectual property lawyer, Aylen has unique experience advising foreign nationals on doing business in Russia and the CIS, as well as helping emerging Russian companies establish and protect their IP rights around the globe. He is repeatedly distinguished as one of the world’s top IP lawyers by leading IP publications and legal rankings organizations, including IAM Patent, Managing Intellectual Property and World Trademark Review.

Gowling WLG was the first Canadian law firm to enter the Russian legal market, having established an office in Moscow in 1992. Specializing in IP, the firm’s award-winning Moscow team works seamlessly with a global clientele – including some of Canada’s top companies and brands – to deliver strategic advice on patents, trademarks, copyright, brands and designs throughout Russia and the CIS.

The award was presented at the Russia-Canada Business Council Symposium on bilateral commercial relations on Dec. 6. The event showcased a number of prominent Russian business leaders, as well as Canadians who have established thriving businesses in Russia across multiple sectors.
