Gowling WLG litigators ranked in 2019 Benchmark Litigation's "40 & Under Hot List"

Gowling WLG partners Jaimie Lickers, Scott A. Smith and Usman Sheikh have all once again earned a listing in the 2019 edition of Benchmark Litigation's "40 & Under Hot List."

This is the third consecutive year for Lickers and Smith, and second consecutive year for Sheikh, to be recognized among North America's most accomplished litigators of the age of 40 or younger.

Jaimie Lickers

Lickers is the national leader of Gowling WLG's Indigenous Law Group, and is considered one of the leading practitioners in Indigenous law in Canada. She works closely with Indigenous groups across the country on a variety of demanding and frequently high-profile matters, including those related to trust development, taxation, self-government and membership litigation. In 2017, she received a Lexpert Zenith Award, which recognized women who have demonstrated excellence in the legal profession.

Scott A. Smith

Smith has a leading national practice at the confluence of environmental, energy, natural resource, and Indigenous law. He has a strong track record of successfully advising clients in high-profile, complex regulatory hearings and related litigation for major natural resource and energy projects across Canada. In 2018, Smith was named among Lexpert's "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40."

Usman Sheikh

As head of Gowling WLG's Blockchain & Smart Contracts Group and also the firm's Securities, Compliance & Investigations Group, Sheikh leads an internationally recognized team that has been instrumental in several of Canada's most notable securities and blockchain litigation mandates. His clients include Canada's largest banks, stock exchanges, thirteen of the largest cryptocurrencies in the world, as well as several blockchain pioneers including co-founders of Ethereum. In 2018, Sheikh was named among the "Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers" by Canadian Lawyer.
