Gowling WLG continues climb in M&A league table rankings for Q1-Q3 2022

24 October 2022

Refinitiv has published its M&A legal advisory league tables for the first three quarters of 2022[1]. Once again, Gowling WLG has posted strong deal numbers for Canada, the UK, France and Europe, which has resulted in improved rankings compared to the same period in 2021.

Refinitiv credited the firm with:

  • 173 global deals for a #18 ranking among law firms worldwide, up from #24 for the same period last year
  • 105 Canadian deals for a #3 ranking among law firms advising on Canadian deals, up from #4 for the same period last year
  • 60 UK mid-market[2] deals tied for a #7 ranking among law firms advising on UK deals, up from #13 for the same period last year
  • 14 French mid-market deals for a #25 ranking among law firms advising on French deals, up from #60 for the same period last year
  • 82 European mid-market deals for a #17 ranking among law firms advising on European deals, up from #27 for the same period last year

The firm also appeared on the league tables for South African and Sub Saharan M&A transactions.

These results are notable considering the fact that Refinitiv has reported a drop in overall volume of M&A deals for many key regions: down 17 per cent for global deals, down 27 per cent for Canadian deals and down 19 per cent for UK mid-market deals.

Quarter after quarter, in all economic environments, Gowling WLG is regularly ranked among leading law firms for M&A transactions. Combining legal knowledge and business acumen, members of the firm's M&A practice serve as trusted advisors to a range of domestic and international clients across all major industry sectors.
