A team of six experienced legal professionals from Lando & Company LLP joined the Vancouver office of Gowling WLG on Aug. 1, 2017.

Lando & Company is a longstanding Vancouver-based boutique law firm with a strong reputation in the areas of real estate, business law and finance.

The legal team that joined Gowling WLG includes Murray Braaten, Mark Ferbers, Paulina Kam, Kenneth Howe, Barbara Wohl and Richard Rabson. Collectively, the Lando group has deep expertise in commercial and investment real estate, commercial lending, real estate development, strata property law and construction.

"This is truly an exciting period of growth for our Vancouver office and our Canadian real estate and real estate lending practice," said Peter Lukasiewicz, CEO of Gowling WLG Canada. "By welcoming the team from Lando, we're expanding our capabilities and capacity to serve our clients in British Columbia and Alberta, across Canada, and around the world."

Called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1981, Murray Braaten has served as Lando's managing partner since 1987. Acting primarily for lending institutions and commercial and residential real estate developers, he has extensive expertise in real estate and resort development, finance, restructuring and foreclosures. Braaten joins Gowling WLG as a partner.

"As part of Gowling WLG, the Lando team will continue to offer the personal, boutique-style service that we're known for," said Braaten. "We're excited to join the firm on Aug. 1 and help our clients benefit from the in-depth support and expansive reach of Gowling WLG's full-service, international platform."

Joining Gowling WLG alongside Braaten as partner is Mark Ferbers. Called to the Manitoba Bar in 1990 and the B.C. Bar in 1991, Ferbers partnered with Lando in 2004 and has broad expertise in real estate and general business law, including commercial leasing, finance, construction and development. He is also a seasoned litigator who specializes in real estate, corporate and commercial litigation, with a focus on foreclosures and builders' liens.

Paulina Kam joins Gowling WLG as a senior associate. Kam was called to the B.C. Bar in 2005 and had been practising at Lando since 2007. She has extensive real estate development experience, particularly in the areas of commercial and multi-family development.
