Regeneration for a Coventry icon

26 January 2017

Gowling WLG's retail estate team has advised client Complex Development Projects (CDP) on the purchase of the former Coventry Telegraph headquarters from Trinity Mirror Group.

One of the most iconic post-war buildings in Coventry city centre, the deal is the latest in a series of innovative regeneration projects undertaken by CDP in the city. CDP plans to save the building and turn it into a unique, boutique hotel which will retain many of the original period features within the building as part of the project.

Client partner Judith Gershon led the matter for Gowling WLG and was supported by senior associate Nisha Shukla and partner Matthew East.

Managing director of CDP, Ian Harrabin, said: "We are thrilled to have completed the deal with Trinity Mirror Group and we'd like to thank Gowling WLG for its fantastic support. We have some exciting plans for the building and, although at an early stage, the idea is to create a hotel that celebrates the 1950s and Coventry's story of resurrection."

Judith added: "The former headquarters of the Coventry Telegraph has not been used since the newspaper relocated in 2012. Complex Development Projects has an exciting vision for this landmark building and we are really looking forward to seeing how the plans unravel."
