John Coldham to become partner in Brands & Designs team

29 March 2018

John Coldham, a longstanding member of the Gowling WLG IP team, has been promoted to partner with effect from 1 May 2018.

John joined the firm in 2005 as a newly qualified solicitor, and his practice has covered an array of work from major patent litigation to high profile brands and designs cases. John helps a number of world leading businesses to enforce their rights both in the UK and together with our network of offices and best friend firms around the globe, in order to achieve efficient resolution of disputes.

John's focus on design law in particular is market-leading. John has acted on some of the major cases on design law in the UK that are frequently cited as precedent. As a result, he is an active member of various policy committees looking at design law at a national and international level. And for clients who do not need (or want) to go the full way, the firm provides regular low cost enforcement work for clients large and small to ensure that their brands are not getting eroded, and designs are not being taken.

Following a recent case that the Gowling WLG IP team worked on, and the firm's work with the London Design Festival, John Coldham and Gordon Harris were invited to become Fellows of the Royal Society of Arts in London.

John's promotion is just the latest step in the development of the firm's world class IP team - with offices in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, the UAE and China, we provide a seamless service around the world so that we can assist our clients in a co-ordinated way wherever issues arise.
