Gowling WLG appoints Brian Lee as co-head of Canadian China Practice

17 August 2020

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Lee as co-head of its Canadian China Practice. In his new role, Lee will join current leader Thomas J. Timmins in strengthening and expanding the practice across Canada.

As part of his individual practice, Lee leverages his advanced understanding of the Chinese intellectual property and commercial landscape to help clients protect their IP rights in China. In recent years, he has also harnessed this experience as a member of the firm's China Management Team, which continues to oversee the steady growth of the firm's Guangzhou and Beijing offices. In his new role, Lee will work to further integrate the firm's offices in China and across Canada, providing clients with seamless support and sophisticated advice across both jurisdictions.

Distinguished among the top lawyers in his field by Lexpert, Best Lawyers and IAM Patent, Lee focuses his practice on complex patent matters, with an emphasis on mechanical and materials engineering, electrochemistry, computer-implemented and software technologies, and clean technology. He previously served as head of the Vancouver office's Intellectual Property Group and co-chair of the office's Technology Industry Group.

"Our China Practice has an accomplished track record of helping Canadian businesses access, navigate, and thrive in China's flourishing economy - and also helping Chinese companies make inroads into Canada," said Lee. "Together with Tom, I look forward to building on that reputation as we continue to explore new markets and modes of client service."
