Gowling WLG welcomes two IP partners to its Toronto office

28 February 2020

Gowling WLG is pleased to welcome Jennifer Jannuska and Omar Nassif as partners in the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Both are based in the Toronto office.

Jannuska joins Gowling WLG from a leading Toronto-based IP boutique, and Nassif rejoins the firm having previously served for more than two decades as a partner.

Jennifer Jannuska

A registered Canadian patent agent and lawyer, Jennifer Jannuska has extensive experience prosecuting and enforcing difficult and non-traditional patents and industrial designs - including patents for business method and software inventions, and industrial designs for physical and virtual interfaces. She is particularly skilled with respect to inventions straddling the line between patents and designs. Her practice encompasses household goods, food and beverage, fashion and jewellery, commercial displays, computer games, automotive parts, packaging and tools, among other areas.

Omar Nassif

Omar Nassif is a registered Canadian and US patent agent with over 30 years of experience. He has a widespread background prosecuting patent applications, both domestically and globally, across a range of industry sectors - including life sciences, water treatment, agriculture, urethane chemistry and natural resources. He complements his practice with significant experience drafting freedom-to-operate and validity opinions, negotiating and drafting IP license agreements, and advising on patent litigation matters.

"Jennifer and Omar come to the firm with sophisticated technical knowledge spanning an array of established and burgeoning sectors," said Mark Ledwell, managing partner of Gowling WLG's Toronto office. "As our firm continues to expand upon its reputation as one of the world's leading providers of IP solutions, we look forward to them working with our global team to maximize our clients' intangible assets, at home and abroad."
