It is with great sadness that Gowling WLG announces the loss of partner, friend and colleague Wayne Brynaert, who passed away on January 18, 2021.
A skilled advocate who "thrived on his feet" at civil trials and disciplinary hearings, Wayne practised in the areas of professional liability and health law. He spent his entire legal career at Gowling WLG in Ottawa after joining the firm as a student in 1981.
Wayne dedicated much of his time to the service of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) and its members. He served on the CMPA General Counsel team for a number of years, and later transitioned to the Provincial Counsel team and became one of its top litigators.
Wayne's exceptional litigation skills were well-known by his industry peers. He was recognized repeatedly in both the Best Lawyers in Canada and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
In addition to advocacy, Wayne also excelled as a mentor. Many of Gowling WLG's brightest and most capable counsel honed their abilities under his watchful eye.
A loving family man who had the heart of a lion, Wayne will be remembered for living a life filled with accomplishments, adventures and lasting friendships.
