Gowling WLG launches Life Sciences, Society & the Law Scholarship

03 March 2023

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce the launch of a $5,000 student scholarship, which will provide support to the next generation of life sciences leaders in the legal field.

Created with monetary assistance from Bayer Inc., the Life Sciences, Society & the Law Scholarship will be awarded annually to a law student enrolled in a Canadian law school. A panel of judges will award the scholarship based on a 1,500-word paper that examines the relationship between life sciences and society from a legal perspective.

In addition to the financial package, the winning author will be recognized across Gowling WLG's various channels, and invited to participate in Gowling WLG's annual Life Sciences, Society and the Law Symposium, held during Biotech Week in September of each year.

"As the scope of life sciences continues to grow, there will be an increased demand for legal professionals to help companies navigate the complex legal requirements of the industry," said Christopher Van Barr, Gowling WLG partner and co-organizer of the Life Sciences, Society & the Law Scholarship. "We are excited to offer support to a law student who is ready for the challenges and opportunities that exist in this fast-paced and highly rewarding sector."

The 2023 scholarship application deadline is April 24, 2023.
