Gowling WLG is pleased to welcome Kim Walker as a partner in its Ottawa office. Working closely with colleagues in the firm's Business Law Group, Kim will draw on her extensive experience in finance and regulatory matters—gained through her role as Director, Legal Services at the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) and years of in-house corporate and commercial experience with Crown corporations—to help clients manage high-stakes lending transactions, regulatory compliance and financial restructuring.

During her time at the CDIC, Kim played a pivotal role in advising the executive team and board on critical legal, compliance and operational matters. She led the CDIC's compliance management team and collaborated with key government partners to shape national financial services frameworks.

"Kim has a deep understanding of commercial lending and secured financing transactions as well as Canada's financial system and complex regulatory framework. This makes Kim a tremendous asset to our clients," said Cyndy Elderkin, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. "Kim's years of experience working with Crown corporations, such as CDIC and CMHC, coupled with her holistic approach to the challenges financial institutions and Crown corporations face across the country—and the regulatory environment in which they operate—aligns perfectly with our commitment to helping clients achieve stability and growth in challenging, dynamic or changing markets."
