Abigail (Abbey) Kearney

Abigail Kearney is a summer student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, working in the Intellectual Property Group.

Abbey is currently in her first year of the English Common Law JD program at the University of Ottawa. She is an actively involved member of the uOttawa law community, holding positions on the Ottawa Law Review, student government (AECLSS) and working as a technology law research assistant.

Prior to her legal studies, Abbey completed a specialized undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences, a certificate in international studies, and a master of biomedical informatics at Queen’s University. While at Queen’s, Abbey worked as a teaching assistant in health ethics law and policy, genomics, and biochemistry. Moreover, Abbey is a published academic author in the sciences with a passion for ethical AI development, and she hopes to continue her interdisciplinary work in computer science throughout her legal career. 

Outside of academia, Abbey enjoys film photography, cycling and playing piano.
