Afaf Alubaidi is an associate in our Dubai office handling a broad range of technology, regulatory and data protection matters. In addition to her strong experience in advising on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions and her strong background in litigations across the Middle East, Afaf's practice is focussed on Tech regulations, Media Regulations and Copyrights advisory, Telecom regulations advisory, blockchain technology, e-commerce, cryptocurrencies, payment services, IT advisory and cross jurisdictional data protection advisory.

Afaf has significant experience in advising a range of key players in the public and private sectors in the region, and has worked for top-tier law firms in Bahrain and Dubai before joining Gowling WLG in Dubai.

Experience

  • Advising major technology, media, e-commerce and retail clients on data protection, tech standards and regulations, consumer protection, product safety and compliance matters in addition to advising on appropriate and efficient corporate structures to fit their complex commercial operations.
  • Reviewing and drafting privacy policies and terms and conditions for leading international and regional technology, e-commerce retail and event organising clients and ensuring the compliance of such documents with local laws and regulations.
  • Advising on complex regulatory matters including but not limited to consumer protection, product compliance and registration requirements, immigration and residency issues, commercial agencies and various other commercial matters.
  • Assisting with large, high profile and high value M&A transactions which included a high profile acquisition by a leading district cooling company and an acquisition by an international media and entertainment organization in the UAE.
  • Drafting and reviewing corporate agreements and commercial contracts including franchise and distribution agreements as well as real estate, construction and employment contracts.
  • Advising and assisting international clients in the establishment of their operations in the UAE, both onshore and across numerous free zones.
  • Conducting legal investigations and liaising and overseeing work with partner firms locally and internationally.
  • Liaising with Ministries, Government entities and organisations locally and internationally, including but not limited to: the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, KSA, Oman, the Cayman Islands and London.
