Alana Scotchmer

Based in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, Alana Scotchmer is a partner and member of the Financial Services Regulation Group. Her practice is particularly focused on financial institution regulation, banking, insurance and reinsurance, and financial service intermediation.

Alana regularly advises Canadian and foreign financial institutions and service providers on Canadian regulatory, compliance and corporate governance matters, including with respect to transactions, payments and consumer issues. In addition, she has extensive experience assisting clients with reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, financings, FinTech and financial intermediary licensing matters across Canada.

As a seasoned professional in the financial industry, Alana has cultivated strong relationships with federal, provincial, and territorial regulators, as well as industry groups. This has given her a deep understanding of the financial regulatory landscape, allowing her to provide practical and reliable advice tailored to her clients' needs. Alana's guidance helps her clients navigate the complex regulatory landscape with confidence, and achieve their goals efficiently.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Alana acted as Canadian regulatory counsel to Royal Bank of Canada. She also holds a certificate in risk management from the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.
