Alex specialises in data protection and advises both private and public sector clients on a wide range of matters. His passion for this area of law stems from his keen interest in how sophisticated and inventive use of data can bring about significant innovations in the way all types of businesses operate. Having worked in the in-house team of a large multinational tech company prior to joining Gowling WLG, Alex is able to combine detailed legal analysis with acute commercial awareness and strives to deliver advice to clients that is both comprehensive and practical.

Experience

  • Advising a leading FMCG company and a telecommunications company on their GDPR compliance project from beginning to end which included tasks such as data mapping, advising on process for data subject requests and drafting privacy notices for staff and customers and internal policies for data breach and CCTVs;
  • Advising a leading automotive manufacturer on updating its privacy notices and marketing practices and drafting GDPR compliant data processing clauses for contracts with suppliers including guidance on controller and processor-friendly positions; and
  • Supporting the Gowling WLG real estate team in a development project that involved reviewing data protection clauses in key commercial contracts, drafting data processing agreements with subcontractors and advising on issues around data flows between stakeholders and international transfer of data.
